Alvenia leads the company's communications strategy, with a focus on advancing the company's corporate narrative, advancing growth priorities, and elevating the company's Corporate Responsibility Commitments. She also leads Chemours' philanthropy and community relations work as the company lives its commitment to the communities where we operate.

Biography

Alvenia Scarborough leads corporate and marketing communications for the Chemours Company. She joined the company in 2014 as Director of Brand Management where she was tapped to lead the creation of all aspects of the Chemours brand including the company name, logo, architecture, and language as it transitioned to a stand-alone, publicly traded company. In 2018, Alvenia was appointed Senior Director of Corporate Communications before becoming the SVP of Communications and Chief Brand Officer (CBO) in 2020.

As CBO, Alvenia is building Chemours’ reputation by sharing the company’s vision of using chemistry to create a better world and driving sustainable innovation to achieve business performance and growth. She has developed an innovative “inclusive communications” framework anchored by a bold brand platform—Courageous Chemistry™— to express the company’s focus on sustainable solutions, responsible manufacturing and environmental leadership, community impact, and making Chemours the greatest place to work.

Alvenia also leads Corporate Philanthropy and has architected several industry-leading programs including the Future of Chemistry Scholarship and the Chemours Future of Engineering Science Trade and Technology (ChemFEST) school adoption initiative. She is the executive sponsor of the Chemours Black Employee Network and serves as the executive co-lead of the Chemours Diversity and Inclusion Council. In 2022, Savoy Magazine named Alvenia to its list of the “Most Influential Black Executives in Corporate America.”

Before joining Chemours, Alvenia held several senior communications leadership roles with DuPont, Newell Rubbermaid, and Kodak.

Alvenia grew up the youngest of three in Richmond, VA where she learned about plant sites and manufacturing from her father, a 30+ year machine operator in the tobacco industry. Alvenia would go on to receive her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from the University of Virginia and earn her Master of Business Administration from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.

Alvenia serves on the board of directors for the United Way, the Advisory Board for the Ron Brown Scholar Program, and is a member of the Fuqua Alumni Advisory Board.
